Heritage Volunteers

Nationally The Arts Society website describes Heritage Volunteers as:

“teams of committed non-specialist volunteers who work under the guidance of curators and other professionals to help conserve our heritage.

Arts Society Heritage Volunteers undertake projects for:

• museums
• National Trust properties
• historic houses
• libraries and gardens

They give their time to care for collections, record documents and act as guides and stewards.”

At The Arts Society Blackwater we have a group of volunteers conserving books at The Plume Library. Also members assist at the Maldon Museum as Stewards.  New members to join the group are always welcome. Click here for further information about Heritage Volunteers.

Young Arts

The Arts Society Blackwater support and provide opportunities for young people to get involved in projects helping them to widen horizons on understanding and appreciating Art. The Arts Society sets no specific format as to how local Societies achieve these aims and can range from: Artists in residence, Art lectures for students, Funding visits to art galleries and museums, Art exhibitions for young artists, Equipment purchases, Practical workshops, Local Arts Week events, Bursaries for individual students and Sponsorship for craft apprentices. Church Recording

Church Recording is an important and worthwhile volunteering activity that members of The Arts Society Blackwater are involved in to promote recognition and preservation of the rich artistic heritage in places of worship. Members give of their time to record the contents of churches of all religions. The items are carefully described in detail and their history researched. A member photographs the items. All the material is then compiled into a book illustrated with the photographs and drawings. This is presented to the church and copies are sent to national institutions. In recent times we have recorded the churches at Little Totham (All Saints) & Little Braxted (St.Nicholas), and the current project is St Giles’ Church in Langford Click here to view the Church Recording Gallery
